About
Ang Xing Xian is the Co-Founder and Group Chief Executive Officer of CapBay, Malaysia’s first and only licensed Multi-Bank Supply Chain Finance platform.
The idea started at home. Growing up, he watched his father — a fisherman turned trader — run a business that was profitable on paper and starved of cash in practice, waiting on payment terms no bank would bridge. It is the same squeeze that quietly limits most small businesses in Southeast Asia: the invoice is good, the buyer is creditworthy, and the money still arrives ninety days late.
He went looking for the machinery to fix it. A degree in Mathematics and Statistics at Imperial College London led to a Master’s in Mathematical and Computational Finance at Oxford, then to a career that began in investment banking at Credit Suisse in London. At MarketInvoice — which became one of Europe’s largest invoice trading platforms — he helped build the analytics engine in the company’s earliest days, and saw first-hand that credit could be assessed from trade data rather than collateral.
He co-founded CapBay in Malaysia in 2016 with Darrel Ang and Edwin Tan. The first loan was RM6,000, to a sole proprietor importing laboratory equipment. Since then CapBay has facilitated over RM5.6 billion in financing for more than 2,600 enterprises, built an AI-driven credit decisioning engine to serve businesses conventional lenders exclude, and expanded beyond Malaysia into Thailand and Singapore.
The work has been recognised along the way — an Asian Banker award for Best FinTech Platform, Fintech Start-up of the Year in Malaysia, a place on Fortune’s FinTech Innovators Asia 2024 list as the only Malaysian company, and The Asset Triple A’s Best Social Loan (SME) award in 2026. He was selected as an Endeavor Entrepreneur in September 2023.
